Project Description

For this project, I created two short promo videos (16:9 and 1:1) for a festival using only animated typography and audio. The 5–10 second pieces showcased the event name, date, logo, and three featured speakers while capturing the “spectacle” archetype. Using one font family and a 2–4 color palette, I designed and animated typography synced to music, creating cohesive, eye-catching motion graphics for YouTube and Instagram.

Process

Research

For this project, the first step was to find a music festival going on with all of the information posted for us to create a moving advertisement for. I first wanted to choose a childhood festival i would go to, The Big E, however the event was so far into the future that almost no information was released about that years events. So to stay local to where i felt home and to connect with the genre of music i really enjoy, i chose Boston Calling. It was easier to research design style and color palette since Boston Calling already had its own advertising and brand identity that i could reference.

Design

I had gone through many design iterations before finally settling on my version 6. I played with both vector and collage assets and had decided to go through with vector assets with collage overlays to create a grunge texture while still staying true to the assignment of using only type to carry my design.

Results

Once my design was in a solid state, covering the bulk of the grading in this project, I moved onto the animation portion to help elevate the design even more. In conclusion, I ended up with a high energy, grunge, rock/punk styled, typography driven, 2D animation for Boston Calling.
